The Last Night

My niece and I went to Wat Pathumwanaram in Bangkok for the last night of Songkran.

Thai people bring sand, Marigold flowers and small flags to the temple. Then they make small sand castle pagodas with them. These are for all the good things coming in the new year.

The big sand castle pagoda was made by a builder with many years of experience.

Silom

On 14 April, my niece Daan and I went to the Songkran Festival at Silom for two hours. There were many people. Everyone threw water and got wet!

Buddha Gifts

For Songkran Festival, we give flowers and water to Buddha. The Thai people also wear colorful shirts.

Visit to a Temple

In early March, I went with my friend to the Wat Bang Phra temple in Bangkok. I asked the monk for good health and good luck. He then crushed a gold leaf and put in on my forehead.

Street Problem

For the Songkran Festival in April, everyone throws water. But maybe they throw too much water this year on Soi 4 street!!

Summer School

Every year my daughter goes to summer school starting in April for one month. Her friends also go. She studies Thai language, English and Math.

Mini Mart

Last year I opened a Mini Mart next to my home. It was hard work. After the construction finished, I painted the inside. Then I ordered the goods. I worked seven days a week. My customers are school children and people in the neighborhood.

Niece’s First Job

My niece has moved to Bangkok for two months to make some money to help pay for the university. She is working at the Cabbage & Condoms restaurant on Sukhumvit Soi 12.
